Postgraduate Training in Adolescent Health
Whilst there are a few formal training posts in Adolescent Medicine across the UK, many general paediatric training posts offer trainees important experience in working with young people as their patients. Work is continuing to develop curricula and competencies that will give all trainees a core framework of knowledge, skills and attitudes for working with young people.

Undergraduate Core undergraduate curricula
Members of the YPHSIG are undertaking work to look at the extent to which Adolescent/Young People's Health is present in undergraduate curricula in medical schools across the UK.
Optional Selected Modules
Undergraduate students at all medical schools have an opportunity to chose a number of optional modules in which to participate (SSC / SSM). A number of medical schools have developed the option of a placement in Adolescent/Young People's Health. Examples of undergraduate modules are detailed below

Adolescent Health Project One of the most exciting developments is the RCPCH / e-Learning for Healthcare Adolescent Heath Project. This e-learning project covers over 70 different modules related to Adolescent Health. It is available to for free to anyone with a GMC number or Nurses PIN number. HEEADSSS Assessment and Motivational Interviewing
Dr Katie Knight, Foundation Doctor and YPHSIG member has developed a training package for the HEEADSSS assessment and Motivational Interviewing with young people. The site was created for doctors, nurses, medical students and other healthcare professionals working with adolescents. It is designed to provide an introduction to essential communication skills that can be used in consultations with teenagers.

Association for Young People's Health
