Evidence, published by Davis et al in the April 2013 edition of the Journal of Pediatrics, from a longitudinal cohort study of overweight Latino young people (from age 8-20 years) examining the impact of maternal gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) status on developmental changes in adiposity and metabolic variables across puberty confirms the elevated risk for excess adiposity and type 2 diabetes in GDM offspring, and highlights the importance of enquiring about GDM as a risk factor.
