A study published in the March edition of the Journal of Pediatrics by Caroline Zuijdwijk and colleagues from Toronto suggests that there is an association between glycemic control and social deprivation in children with type I diabetes but that this association is not seen for children and young people using insulin pumps. They suggest that insulin pumps may have a moderating effect on the social determinants of poor outcomes in type 1 diabetes.
