In the March 2011 edition of Archives of Disease in Childhood Helen Bould and colleagues examine the association between anxiety and depression and CFS/ME and discuss whether CFS/ME is caused by depression or if depression is a complication of CFS/ME. They postulate that CFS/ME and emotional disorders such as depression and anxiety may have a common causative pathway and conclude that the relationship between the disorders is complex and that the involvement of CAMHS professionals in caring for young people with CFS/ME is vital given the high rates of depression and anxiety.
