Dougal Hargreaves and Russell Viner writing in this month's Arch Dis Child report an analysis of Adolescent In-patient Activity using English Hospital Episode Statistics (HES). The study period was essential the "noughties" and they report that by 2010 inpatient activity had increased faster for adolescents than younger children over a ten year period and amongst some groups inpatient activity levels are higher among adolescents than younger children (1–9 years). They also note that adolescents are admitted across a range of specialities, highlighting the need for hospitals  to identify clinicians with specific responsibility for adolescent health.
