Participation in action: Teens in Hospital

A-level student Jessica Platt has developed an exciting, stylish and thought provoking project presentation which provides health professionals with a young person's perspective on healthcare consultations. It is an outstanding example of young people's participation in health services and Jessica has found a voice which combines warmth, humour, and insight with some basic facts about the development of the adolescent brain and its impact on social interactions and consultations. Please take a look and if you have any feedback for Jessica I will gladly pass it on (email your comments and compliments to damian.wood@nuh.nhs.uk). This is a resource which I am sure many of us will be using as we train the next generation of health professionals. Jessica is clearly a teenager with a fresh ideas about how we engage our colleagues in developing young people friendly services and she has started in the right place - with the basics of our everyday interactions with young people in hospital.
